FIRS has prioritised

... to work with six specialisation areas. The selection criteria are not homogenous, but the areas should have a basis in an industry strengths, research strengths and a future potential. There should be actors with the potential to be globally competitive and that provide solutions to societal challenges.

Specialisation areas

The manufacturing industry is one of region Skåne´s key assets, with notable strentghs in packaging, heat exchangers, ventilation, materials, chemistry, plastics.

The focus for activities in this priority area is related to smart industry efforts, on digitisation, automatisation, sustainable production, new materials, traceability, and skills supply.

In Skåne there is currently a construction ongoing of two world leading Research Infrastructures, ESS and Max IV.

The ambition with the work in this specialsiation area is to develop a world class innovation system around the two facilities that will support increased use and societal benefits of the usage of the facilities.

Important activites is to foster the establishment of knowledge institutions that develop knowledge domains connected to the Big Science facilities ESS and MAX IV, in Nano-materials, Life Sciences and other emerging fields.

Skåne has a world class food production system that is complete in that it hosts actors from all steps of the food production system. Primary production, food, packaging, logistics, retail, recycling, etc.

This is the departure point for several activities in order to enhance the innovation capacity of companies, including:

Increased food production in a circular and bio-based food production system.

Food for quality of life and health, e.g. precision nutrition.

Develop new possibilities within food security and consumer trust within the entire food value chain, inlcuding packaging and logistics.

FoodTech, e.g. precision farming, Internet of Things, A.I., and 3D printing.

The Life science and health sector is in a process of profound change, where life science companies are increasingly incorporating or departure from tech and big data solutions and there is an increased focus on prevention.

Life science and health are also the leading themes at the region's universities, with world class research.

FIRS carries out activites to support the development of new life science products, services, e-health, business models and system solutions for preventive health.

Knowledge, products, processes, services and systems at the intersection between a broad range of technological areas that solves cities' sustainability challenges, like energy, water, mobility and information systems.

FIRS carries out activites that use the potential in the Cities in Skåne's progressive thinking to attract companies and facilitate collaboration in new urban developments, as test beds in real life environments.

Support to innovative procurement and city planning processes with a high degree of innovation and sustainability.

To coordinate and communicate the many activites in cities, industry, academia and research institutes.

Skåne hosts a broad range of globally leading Tech companies that offers digital hard- and software solutions. there ar eboth established actors and fast growing start-ups.
